- : This is true, if you are knowledgeable enough, and want to go to the time
- : of using the other tools, getting the shell commands from Aminet, etc.
-
- : I have Zip Tools and really like it. I do not have to wonder if I am
- : formating something correctly, with RDB's etc. You just hit CTRL-ALT-Z
- : and the ZipTools requester comes up with both the PC and Amiga options
- : ready to be acted on. I just click on whichever format I want that disk,
- : and click on "format". It takes 5 or 6 minutes, but then the Zip is
- : ready to use, RDB's or whatever all taken care of.
-
- : The other nice thing about them is the selections from the same requester
- : to write protect the disk. For my Zips with hard drive back-ups on them,
- : I chose Write Protected, to avoid accidental erasures, etc, and hopefully
- : viruses also. Then, when I want to update those disks, I choose
- : "Unprotect until Eject", and I can update the disk, with the Write
- : Protection set automatically when I eject it.
-
- : I could do all of this with free utilities etc., I just like the
- : convenience and reliablility of ZipTools. Also, it is easier to format an
- : IBM Zip disk with these tools than with the tools available on the Mac,
- : according to my brother.

- There are no shell commands involved in the method I described. Not
- only that it is much quicker than the 5-6 minutes that you describe. It
- takes me less than a minute to get a Zip disk ready to go. RDPrep uses a
- GUI and reads the Zip ROM and writes the RDB. Then you just click on the
- icon and use the WB format command to quick format it. And I don't have
- to have a utility sitting around that is not needed 99.99% of the time.
